Sheriff investigation into Alec Baldwin shooting Halyna Hutchins on "Rust'

Santa Fe Sheriff - Death Investigation

Summary:

Alec Baldwin, 64, shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, and director Joel Souza, 48, on Oct. 21, 2021 on the “Rust” movie set on the Bonanza Creek Ranch. Hutchins died from her injuries. The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department has been investigating.

Status:

The Sheriff’s department says it’s waiting for the FBI forensic report of the revolver, ammo and DNA. It’s also waiting on the analysis of Baldwin’s cell phone and Medical Examiner reports.

Key People:

  • Santa Fe Sheriff Adam Mendoza is investigating the shooting (website). His media spokesman is Juan Rios.

  • New Mexico’s First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies will determine if there will be criminal charges. (Website)

  • Aaron S. Dyer is Baldwin’s lawyer. He’s a former Assistant U.S. Attorney and works in the LA at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman (website).

  • Joel Souza is the director of the movie and a producer. He was show when the bullet from Baldwin’s gun went through Halyna and into Souza’s shoulder.

  • David Halls was the assistant director who allegedly handed the gun to Baldwin. In his role, he is in charge of safety on set. Lawyer: Lisa Torraco of Albuquerque (website).

  • Hannah Gutierrez Reed was the armorer for “Rust”, meaning she was in charge of the guns and ammo on set. According to the sheriff’s reports, she loaded the gun before the shooting and gave it to Dave Halls. Lawyer: Jason Bowles of Albuquerque (website).

  • Sarah Zachary was the prop master for the movie and Hannah’s supervisor. She and Hannah took the guns to the set for the rehearsal.

  • Seth Kenney is the owner of PDQ Arm & Prop and supplied the guns and most of the ammo for “Rust.” Lawyer: Adam Engelskirchen of San Francisco.
