Unfortunately, this seems to boil down to a case of anti-gunners/media (usually the same) wanting to have their cake and eat it too. They want only the cops and military to have guns and then tell the cops and military how to use them (despite having no expertise or personal experience in the area). They have really strong, "noble" opinions about the use of force but won't do the hard work to confirm or deny whether what they propose is actually feasible. Their ignorance is bad enough, but their refusal to do real research and accept the realities of this issue won't change their minds. They think their opinions are morally right and no amount of evidence will change them.

Great article, totally agree about this will be deadly for Leo’s. I worked for a Sheriff and Pd in the mid 70’s, I have searched an abandoned house for 2 murderers that came thru our county, with a .357 drawn. No one was in the house but adrenaline was high as the possibility of an armed confrontation. It is easy to be an arm chair quarterback but totally different in the real world.

I have news for you; shooting in the pelvic region is likely to cause exsanguination bleeding ditto the thigh. So please, can we let the adults back into the room now?

I have been a law enforcement firearms and tactical instructor since 1981 as both a deputy sheriff and a Federal agent.

First, there is no safe place to shoot someone.

Second, it's called deadly force for a reason. The object of shooting a violator is to make him stop. If he dies as a result, that was caused by his actions. It's not the desired outcome; it's a foreseeable consequence.

At my last agency, we trained to shoot at the groin as a secondary target if shooting to center mass didn't stop the threat. It's never the first choice of target unless the threat is seen to be wearing body armor. Training cops to shoot first to the pelvis will result in more rounds fired (which land somewhere) and more injured or killed officers.

This is altogether a silly idea promoted by administrators and city administrations with no real idea of life on the street.
