I’ve grown weary of the overwhelming amount of Chinese branded stuff that dominates Amazon. I noticed it a few years ago when I looked to Amazon to buy a canopy for use at the beach. I expected to see brands I knew, Coleman, Igloo...Instead what for sale looked like it came from

Ali Baba or Wish. 😳

Interesting list of gadgets and gizmos that make some chores more pleasant and enjoyable. I do like the rechargeable small vacuum you found. Lots of creative inventors out there. One gadget that satisfies my urge to whittle and cheese and fits in a kitchen drawer better than the T handle one is a cheese slicer that can be found searching for - thick and thin cheese slicer. Sometimes sold in cheese stores with their own stamp on it. Yes, it is plastic with wire, yes it isn't made in US BUT it has held up well for me with my soft cheese cravings. Be it sandwiches or crackers, it does the job. And in the days of inflation buying bulk soft cheese is an option. Although yes cheeses can be sandwich sliced for free at grocery store in amounts you want, you do pay a lil more per lb. And did I mention it fits in kitchen drawer better than T handle one or the others with granite table to slice on? They do have better non T handle ones (all metal) made in Europe for ~$10 more but the cheap one works well on moderate to soft cheeses. Whittling habit is sated.

While everyone loves a bargain, especially in this current stagflationary period for the economy, it should not pass without comment on how Amazon achieves their bargain prices: cutting costs all too often means cutting corners, which is a major reason Amazon regularly lands on the National Council on Occupational Safety and Health "Dirty Dozen" list.

Not every cost is dollar denominated. A few are human-denominated.

Great list, Emily, but I the big question I have is, "What's the difference between a gadget and a gizmo?" And I might get the vacuum cleaner for my wife's birthday, since that's her job.

(No, honey, I wasn't saying...no, really, I was just kidding...ouch! Yes, dear, I'll take out the trash right now...please put the knife down...icoadvchpucduaieaoi)

I noticed that you said you run with your ear plugs and listen to music. Since you also conceal carry, you must also be reasonably cautious about the situation around you when you are out and about. Do you have any qualms about being distracted during your long runs?

I used to run alone at night to wind down after work, so in order to hear what might be happening around me I avoided using music. I often ended up wool-gathering and, while I got some good ideas, I probably was as distracted as I would have been listening to music. Has it caused you any problem?

Praying for you Emily.

It was interesting Emily to read about your favorite gadgets & gizmos and then your commentary. I can relate to what you said whether it was the stainless steel clips or the ear clips. Definitely going to get the ear clips as I've lost a few myself. Your items Emily, would be a great list to keep handy on Amazon, for future presents for women and for men - whether birthday, Christmas, wedding etc.

Thank you for sharing your commentary because NOW we know what items actually DO work !

I have been using Amazon since 2012. It's been an absolute boon to me. Not only for the prices, but for the absolute convenience. The only other merchants I use are Walmart, other online mercantile sites, and the local grocers pretty much because going to brick and mortar places sometimes is just too much. Using the filters also is a good thing for prices and for purchasing products with good ratings. And I do not advertise my personal positions on websites like these so I can avoid political positions from interfering with what I acquire. Some of the things you mention seem really handy.
