The parade at 8th and I is more personal and intimate, and when combined with the historic setting, more stirring than the Tuesday night parade. The Marines are the true draw for both events, but I prefer the Friday night parade venue. Semper fi!
My high school band played music like the Marine Corps Band. Of course they play it better. We played while marching patterns; of the three local high schools we were the only band doing complex marching patterns. Another school played jazz music like the Airmen of Note, which I like better.
I have a rifle like the drill team except no bayonet. I do not do tricks with mine, but it actually shoots!
Fair morning. What an absolutely lovely tradition. And the excellent photo. These give me cheer on this day, when two weeks from this day, on 21 August, at 1340 Central Daylight Time, the 56th anniversary of my eviction from my mother's womb will commence. The colorful combinations of the military personnel uniforms, the excellent precision of the performances, and the opportunities for personal memorances...all of these are glorious to consider. While certainly the political climate of the District of Columbia is a methane soaked swamp, the pageantry assists in the anesthesia of that particular fact. My appreciation for the lovely piece.
