EM, I understand your frustration and even anger. I have no words of wisdom or advice. However, many times I have told you, "I trust you".
I joined Twitter in MAY 2009. Four or five years later I bought and read your book. Through the years I have watched you and read your words. Regardless if you have a Blue Checkmark or not, I will Follow you.
I am sure others believe similarly. In that I trust you find solace and appreciation.
Strange concept, that we should trust Emily because she has a blue check mark. I thought the mark only indicated that the account sending a message was certified to be coming from the actual person with that name, so we knew that the actual Emily Miller that we know about is sending them. In other words, we trust that the message is coming from the person with that name, not necessarily that the person is more trustworthy than someone else. The trust in that person still must be (and has been) earned.
I admit to not understanding your hesitancy to pay for verification. To me, Twitter feels like a global town square that was free because it was paid for by corrupt advertisers that supported its promotion of the Left and suppression of the right. Then it was taken over by Musk, but now the global town square is not suppressing the right and it can't get enough advertising to make it free any longer. I think every user should just pay a small monthly fee for admission to the global town square instead of relying on corrupt advertisers. So yes, I think you should pay for verification to continue as a journalist who speaks honestly.
I updated the story about the different prices for buying verification on the app compared to on a browser. I was told the Apple Store does a markup on subscriptions which is passed on to the buyer. Lesson learned!
I don't think a checkmark matters a helluva lot. I think your reach expands by doing credible stories not just on your own platform, but for EpochTimes etc.
I’m not on any social media platforms. I left facebook when my account got hacked and I couldn’t fix it and facebook wasn’t helping me. I love Substack , and I trust you Emily because you have helped me through the death of my wife and I really appreciate it
JUST NOW got a message on Instagram that I can get a blue check for $15 a month. Forget it!

Hi Emily! I will follow you regardless of this situation! Personally I would not!

Twitter has proven to be nothing more than a nuisance to my interests. I wish Twitter well in Hell.
Really bored with SM anymore, especially Twitter; too much “me too! Me too!” -ism.

you are legit.
Up to you ...
I got axed in 2021 on Twitter
I always “read, write, think.” I think that’s basically the default on social media, right? 🤣

So far, Facebook hasn’t asked me to pay for the check mark on my page. But seems it’s just a matter of time.
